GONE...FINE LONDON BRACKET CLOCK £2,800.00
HENRY BORRELL (1795-1840) is listed in Britten's Book of Clockmakers as a musical clock and watchmaker of Aldersgate, London. A Georgian bracket clock has its brass movement inscribed Hny Borrell.
The clock will feature in our September auction and has a twin fussee movement, which strikes on a rack of bells. Still working after some two hundred years the clock has a wonderful tone when the group of bells are played. The movement also has a dead beat escapemtn..
It has a circular white painted dial that has perished somewhat with the majority of paintwork now lifting. The tall case measures 68cm high and is surmounted by gilt pineapple finials. The ebonised wood case is inlaid with decorative brass work, it also has pierced brass panels to its side with Gothic style tracery.
A pair of cluster columns stand either side of the dial which are capped with gilt decoration.
The clock has been in the same family for many years and has been standing in a 17th century South Devon property until its removal to auction Estimate £1,500-£2,000.

EVEING ART AUCTION 15TH SEPTEMBER 6.00PM
The September Art auction features a private collection of original paintings by Lee Woods. Paintings by the artist have becmome very sought after at auction. The collection on offer was acquired many years ago when Lee Woods was based in Plymouth where he began his unique stlye with the Genetic Animal series.
Over ten paintings are on offer with a range of estimates from £150 to £900 each.
The same auction features a further collection of signed Silkscreen and Lithographic prints by Plymouth's Robert Lenkiewicz (1941-2002). Estimates range from £150 to £700.
For those in the market for originals by Lenkiewicz there will be a wide selection on offer including oil paintings, watercolours and drawings.
An artist proof print by Rolf Harris should sell for £200, it is titled 'Self Portrait a la Van Gogh' and comes complete with certificate.
The quarterly evening sale will also feature selected traditional British artist with fine paintings by Henry Milborne , R.D.Sherrin, Willaims Gibbons, G.Hugo Tabor and many others will be on offer.
At the May sale a set of four Chinese albums by Youqua sold for £7,200, the September sale wil feature a further album by the same artist estimated at £800-£1,200.

THOMAS BUSH HARDY PAINTING FOR SEPTEMBER AUCTION
A fine painting by British artist Thomas Bush Hardy that had been left on top of a wardrobe in Plymouth is to feature in the September art sale at Plymouth Auction Rooms.
Thomas Bush Hardy (1842-1897) produced many fine shipping scenes depicting scenes of the East English coast or Continental scenes. He also painted a number of fine watercolours of Venice which rarely come onto the market.
The painting on offer has been with the same family for many years is housed in a carved oak frame with a Plymouth frame makers label to verso. The painting is titled 'Entrance to the Grand Canal, Venice’ and measures 20cm x 65cm.
It is clearly signed and carries a pre sale estimate at £600-£800.

Exhibited Lenkiewicz Self Portait Sells at Auctioneers Valuation
An estimate of £15,000 -£20,000 proved spot on for the fine Self Portrait painting by Robert Lenkiewicz at the recent art auction in February. The painting signed and inscribed to verso 'Self Portrait, one of eighteen for the paintings designed to make money', also inscribed 'to Georgie a Gift' was exhibited at Ben Uri Exhibition 2008, it was also featured in the White Lane Press Publication 'Robert Lenkiewicz Self Portraits 2008' Press Page 32. It came from a local Plymouth private collection and was bought by a Private collector bidding in the saleroom.

MEISSEN PORCELAIN SERVICE SELLS FOR £3000.
A fine 19th century Meissen porcelain service sold for £3,000 at our June sale. The 400 lots auction was a near sell out with a vast array of Victoriana principally from property on offer. Bidding was brisque for all the items with many mixed lots sellings far over estimate. The jewellery section included a diamond ring for £1,000 and in the silver section a large punch bowl fetched £840. The 390 lots averaged just under £100 per lot.

BOUYANT BIDDING FOR JULY AUCTION 2010
The selected antique contents of two properties in Devon yielded the principle lots for the July auction.
Many lots on offer attracted multiple national and international bids with particular interest in works of art, glassware, silver and porcelain.
Two 19th century mechanical music boxes sold well over estimate with a walnut cased Polyphon going at £550 and a Nicole Frères cylinder music box at £740.The glass section featured a fine silver and glass claret jug by Daum, Nancy; the £500-£800 presale estimate was eclipsed with it selling at £1,700.
A collection of Mary Gregory glass sold for £1,200 whilst a group of Victorian meat platters sold for £430.
A collection of miniature mugs, tyg’s and cups some of which were by Worcester, Meissen and Minton raised £1,000.
Five 19th century Samplers sold at £740, a collection of Beatrix Potter figures fetched £470.
Bidding was fierce for five lots of Plymouth pottery by John Pollex, The slipware pieces featured a large harvest jug, ginger jars and two toft plates all potted around 1960 to 1970, the collection sold at £790.
The jewellery section featured a 1.75ct diamond ring selling to a private buyer for £1,500. A good 18ct gold half hunter gents pocket watch by Benson almost doubled estimates when it sold for £770 and a gold cigarette case at £730 also a 1960's Rolex with later bracelet sold for £400.
Silver also sold well with a tea set at £450, another for £240, a salver also at £240 and an inkwell at £135.We are now inviting entries for the August Auction.

GONE....TOYS & COLLECTABLES AUCTION MARCH 2010
Over two hundred bidders were registered for the eclectic March toys and collectables auction. There were many notable prices including a two day Marine Chronometer by Mercer at £1050, a collection of OO gauge Model Railway for £1070, a collection of well engineered replica pistols at £2,400 and a collection of French Dinky Toys at £550. Notable single sales included a Hornby Stephens Rocket train set at £360, an unassembled GWR wide Loco at £220, numbers sets of medals from £50 to £250, a surprise price of £460 for a set of German badges, coins collection £50 to £300, shipping photographs at £290, A.Rackham book 'British Ballads £200 and a ships bell at £220 . The highest price of the sale was for a Mazda Bongo campervan which sold for £9,322.00 (Inc premium). We are now inviting entries for the June Specialist Sale.

GONE CHINESE RICE PAPERS PAINTINGS SELL AT £7,100.00
The evening art auction featured four albums of 19th century Chinese rice paper paintings by Youqua, on May 19th. Live internet bidding and phone bidding was intense with the albums sailing past their £1000 estimate to sell to a specialist bidding by phone for £7,100.

SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL AUCTION
The special July auction of Swarovski crystal glass animals and figures attracted many collectors. Only eight lots failed to sell from the 106 lots on offer. The collection sold at the top end of our presale estimate with gross sales at £7,200. Demand was high for the larger fine animal groups but low for editions from the Masquerade Series.

MODERN and TRADITIONAL ART SELLS AT THE MAY ART AUCTION
Our recent evening art auction featured a wide range of modern and traditional paintings and prints. There were several notable prices achieved at the sale with some 191 lots on offer.
The auction included over 20 limited edition prints by Robert Lekiewicz with a wide range of prices, with the top price at £720 for Anna Rear View. One collection of prints sold for £4,500. Four albums of Chinese rice paper paintings sold very well at £7,100 whilst originals by Robert Lenkiewicz included a Self Portriat at £7,000 and Painter with Anna at £5,000.

Plymouth's first Live Online Auction is a Great Success!
Plymouth Auction Rooms have been the first local auction house and one of the few Westcountry salerooms to introduce live online bidding at their sales. The February art auction was the perfect platform for this service which attracted a wealth of registered bidders from as far as New York, Belgium and across the country. Auctioneer Paul Keen was able to receive bids from bidders in the room, telephone bidders and also multiple bidders on line as the auction took place. The art auction featured some fine paintings by Robert Lenkiewicz and other leading Westcountry artists with a premium inclusive total sale of £85,000 raised from the 176 lots. Over £20,000 worth of sales went to online bidders.
The next auction for Live Online Bidding will be the 19th May Art Auction.

THE MAY AUCTION ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS
In addition to national media interest, the May 5th antique sale attracted bidders from as far as Hong Kong, Dubai, Arizona, Japan and Germany.
A fine Country property in West Cornwall yielded a number of the 'star' lots at the sale. Six telephone lines were booked for bidding on a rare early 19th century Chinese box decorated with 28 glass panels. The estimate proved futile as bidding took off at £500 with international phone bidding competing which soon rose to a staggering £7,200 with a winning bid by a specialist standing in the room.
From the same property was a late 18th century Meissen service although suffering from damage a Germany based bidder was outbid by a Devon specialist at £1,900. A well kept 19th century Wine Cooler exceeded expectations at £1,180 whilst an 18th century mirror in original condition fetched £1,500 and a four poster sold for £530.
The collectables section saw a Doulton figure The Moor go at £400, a Nove pottery wall plaque at £330, and a set of John Pinches silver ingots for £670.
The silver and jewellery section was brisk with a Georgian silver tea set at £500, a Victorian coffee pot £370 and a large silver trophy for £400. An 18ct gold brooch went for £750, a 18ct pocket watch at £950, an Asprey pocket watch once owned by Lady Astor’s butler for £450 and a gold charm bracelet at £600. Watches faired well with an Omega Constellation at £960 and an Omega Speedmaster for £680.
A record price was achieved for a pair of mother of pearl opera glasses with a rare side aperture an American commission bid secured these for £300.

CHINESE BIRDS MAKE RECORD PRICE AT PLYMOUTH AUCTION ROOMS SOLD £200,600.00
This rare pair of 18th century Chinese Export pottery parrots attracted international bidders at our sale on the 4th of November 2009. Some eight telephone lines were in use with a frenzy of bids up to £100,000 but a determined private collector living on the Continent beat off a specialist London dealer to secure the birds for a record breaking £170,000 (plus Buyers Premium).
